This blog stinks. Jul 10 11

Anybody who has followed this space over the years knows that I have tried countless times to keep a blog. I’ve always enjoyed writing, but there was always something about blogging that distracted me after a few weeks.

If you were to ask me, I would say there were several factors contributing to this:

1. Trying to force myself to write every few days. I’d spend way too much time trying to find something to write about, which usually resulted in a half-assed blog post that didn’t really mean much to anyone.

2. My blog was trying to do too much. I’ve always been pretty loyal to WordPress, but the truth is, I really don’t need all the features it gives me. I’m the type of writer who gets distracted by an over-abundance of features and an over-complicated design.

That’s why this current setup is perfect for me. Without me telling you, or without creeping your way into the source code of this page, you’d probably never guess this was a WordPress install. That’s because I took the juice out of it. No commenting, no categories or tags, not even a search function. All the headlines to my blog posts will be on the blog index. Compared to other, full-featured WordPress blogs, this blog absolutely stinks.

I’m not going to lie, either. I only plan to write here when I have something worthwhile to talk about. Perhaps a project, some code I want to share, or a rant about why something sucks. I think you’ll find, though, that this blog will stay around longer than my previous ones have, for that reason. Whenever I feel like writing something, this is where it will end up.
